Certification Earned
Christopher M. Thompson, in his sixth year of employment with UAI, has earned a certification in the general practice of industrial hygiene from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. A chemist by training, Chris brings an in depth understanding of chemical detection, identification and quantification to the firm, and has assisted several clients with complex chemical hazard assessments and exposure determinations.
Little Miami Wild & Scenic River
Leslie J. Ungers was elected to the board of trustees for LMI, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the restoration and protection of the Little Miami Wild & Scenic River. The organization owns 100 nature preserves along the river and several of its tributaries. www.littlemiami.com
Women of the Year
UAI employee Priscilla Batsche Ungers was selected as one of the ten "Women of the Year" for 2012 by the Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper for her work with minority, immigrant, and disadvantaged students. Sunday Enquirer, 04/20/12
Diacetyl Regulations
Food Chemical News - an industry trade journal - cites UAI's critical review of the NIOSH Draft Criteria Document on Diacetyl and 2,3-Pentanedione as evidence that the agency needs to revisit its risk assessment effort. Critical Review
UAI, in collaboration with Dr. Frank L. Mink, Ph.D., submitted a critique of the NIOSH Draft Criteria Document on Diacetyl and 2,3-Pentanedione. The letter raises concerns with the agency's work related to the subjects of causation, data analysis, risk assessment and control technology. 15 November 2011.
